BROOKINGS COUNTY — A county resident reported the theft of an ATV from their front yard.

According to a release from the Brookings County Sheriff’s Department, a resident reported the theft around 6 a.m. on July 2.

Security camera footage showed the ATV being stolen from the yard around 3 a.m., the release said. From the tracks, it appeared to deputies the ATV was driven from the property to a nearby road and loaded on to another vehicle.

The ATV is valued at around $2,000.

Any county residents with security cameras near the intersection of 202nd Street and 466th Avenue are asked to check their footage and contact Brookings Dispatch at 605-692-2113 is they have anything to report.

The theft remains under investigation.

Hit-and-run

Deputies also responded to a hit-and-run incident on Tuesday afternoon.

A driver of a 2012 Chevy Impala reported a collision with an “older GMC pickup,” at the intersection of 32nd Street South and Main Avenue South.

According to the release, neither driver stopped after the collision and the driver of the Impala noted nothing about the driver of the pickup.

The driver of the Impala only noticed the damage after returning home and then called the sheriff’s department.

Damage to the Impala was estimated at $1,400.

The sheriff’s office wants to remind drivers of the importance of immediately notifying law enforcement after any kind of collision.

Anyone with any information about this case can contact the sheriff’s office at 605-696-8300.
