HURON – Chris Lerdal threw six solid innings and Akren Prodoehl drove in three runs as the Bobcats pushed their win streak to 10 games with a 9-1 defeat of Huron in high school baseball action Friday evening.
Lerdal gave up one run on five hits with three strikeouts.
Prodoehl finished 2-for-4 with a double.
Brookings took control with a six-run fourth inning.
Tyler Kreutner got it going with a leadoff triple.
Jacob Schoon, who scored three times in the game, followed with an RBI single to open the scoring.
Jacob Devine had a one-out single and scored on Prodoehl’s two-out hit. Lerdal then reached on an error, which allowed Devine to score to make it 3-0.
Drew Cole came through with a two-run single and Jameson Meyer tacked on an RBI double to give the Bobcats a 6-0 cushion.
The Tigers scored their lone run in the bottom of the foruth as Sam Kretschmar tripled with two outs and scored on a Matthew Katz single.
Schoon and Brandin Heesch got the fifth going with back-to-back walks. Prodoehl came through with a two-run double with two outs.
Schoon and Heesch walked to begin the seventh, as well, as the former came around to score to provide for the final margin.
Cole pitched a scoreless seventh inning with a strikeout and a walk.
Huron starter Parker DeJean gave up six runs – two earned – on seven hits with three walks and two strikeouts in four innings.
Bryce Steffen doubled for the home team.
Brookings (11-1), which is 10-0 versus in-state competition, plays host to Rapid City Stevens in a doubleheader today at 2 p.m. and then heads to Yankton for another twinbill Sunday at 1 p.m.
