Brookings Birding Club to learn how technology helps birders, researchers

The Brookings Birding Club will hold its September meeting on Sept. 11 at 7 p.m. in the Larson Nature Center at Dakota Nature Park.

The speaker will be Bret Lang, a wildlife Ph. D. student at South Dakota State University. His topic will be how technology can assist both birders and researchers.

Many birders use eBird to keep track of the birds they see, such as the Kingfisher, pictured, but did you know that bird data they collect is used by researchers around the world?

In fact, if you use eBird, you are part of one of the largest citizen science efforts that has ever taken place. This presentation is going go through some of the technologies that we use in birding (eBird, Merlin, GoBird) and how they can be used to learn more about the bird populations and trends in Brookings County.

Brookings Bird Club meetings are open to all interested people.
