BROOKINGS — Brookings Community Theatre is thrilled to announce auditions for the upcoming production of "Charlie Cox Runs with Scissors" by Michael McKeever, and directed by Jason Soren.

Auditions will be Aug. 27 and Aug. 29 at GracePoint Wesleyan Church, 1420 Orchard Drive, in Brookings from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. both nights. All interested actors are encouraged to attend.

This heartwarming and humorous play tells the story of Charlie Cox, who, after being diagnosed with a terminal illness, embarks on a cross-country road trip that leads to the Arizona desert, where he uncharacteristically picks up a hitchhiker, a sarcastic, impatient guy named Wally, who happens to be his own personal death emissary.

As Wally urges him to get it over with, lovely, sexy Kiki enters the picture wearing dark glasses since “love is blind.” Wally is infuriated when love blossoms between Charlie and the widow Nell, and the ensuing battle between Death and Love teaches Charlie the importance of living life to the fullest.  The play is a delightful blend of comedy and drama, with a cast of memorable characters that will challenge and inspire any actor.

Production dates:

  • Oct. 17-20
  • Location: Oscar Larson Performing Arts Center on the campus of South Dakota State University

Roles are available for a variety of characters, and no prior experience is required. Those auditioning will be asked to read from the script, and adult actors of all backgrounds, and experience levels are welcome.

Rehearsals will begin in early September and will be held on weekday evenings from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. A detailed schedule will be provided after casting.
