Brookings High School marching band shines at Rosemount Festival

The Brookings High School Marching Band kicked off their season with a strong performance at the 34th Annual Rosemount Marching Band Festival on Sept. 14 in Rosemount, Minnesota. Their efforts earned them third place in Class AA and the coveted Outstanding Percussion Award.

The Rosemount Marching Band Festival, known for its high-caliber competition, featured 20 of the region’s top high school bands in the preliminary rounds and culminated in a highly anticipated finals segment. The Brookings High School Band’s convincing showing in the preliminary round positioned them among the top 10 highest-scoring bands across all classes, securing a spot in the highly competitive finals.

Under the direction of Isaac McMahon, the Brookings Marching Band captivated judges and the audience with their show, “Writings on the Wall.” The show tells the timely story of division, conflict, and the desire for change. The band’s performance showcased their impressive blend of musical skill and artistic expression, earning them high praise in competition.

McMahon expressed his pride in their achievements. “Receiving third place and the award for Outstanding Percussion in a strong class is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our students,” McMahon said. “We’ve implemented some changes this season, which are already paying off and set us up for huge improvements throughout the season.”

Senior drum major Ramsey Zeller echoed McMahon’s enthusiasm, emphasizing the band’s achievements in their first competition of the season. “Winning third place is a great way to start the year,” Zeller said. “Our entire band works really hard and is committed to being better every time we take the field. We’re excited for the rest of the season.”

The Brookings High School Marching Band perform this Friday during halftime of the Brookings High School football game. They invite the community to celebrate the band’s success and see them perform right here in Brookings. On Sept. 21, the band traveled to Marshall, Minnesota, for the Pursuit of Excellence competition. This event offered another chance for the band to showcase their talents as they competed against top bands from across the region. The Brookings High School Marching Band continues to receive enthusiastic support from their community and fellow bands.
