HAMLIN COUNTY — A man from Brookings is facing multiple charges following a weekend incident in Hamlin County involving a stolen vehicle that was later wrecked in a rollover.
Hamlin County Sheriff Chad Schlotterbeck told the Brookings Register on Monday about the range of charges Trey Svennes, 20, faces:
Per the sheriff’s office, at 5:22 a.m. Saturday, deputies and Lake Norden Ambulance were dispatched to U.S. Highway 81 near 187th Street in rural Hamlin County, about 8 miles north of Lake Poinsett, for a single-vehicle rollover.
Emergency responders on the scene couldn’t locate Svennes, who was driving the vehicle, which was reported stolen from the Lake Poinsett area on Friday night. Schlotterbeck said Svennes was later found at Brookings Health System, where he was being treated for non-life-threatening injuries as a result of the rollover.
Schlotterbeck said Svennes was taken to the Brookings County Detention Center, but has since bonded out.
The Hamlin County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate the incident.
