Brookings OLLI members were grateful and delighted by the continued financial support from First Bank & Trust to help with decreasing class fees and increasing rewards this past semester.

OLLI members were able to earn their certificates in a CPR/AED Life Support class with the full cost of the class covered by First Bank and Trust. This class was taught by paramedic Wendy Long and held at the Brookings Health System Ambulance and Education Center. The class highlight was the technology involved to monitor chest compression depth and frequency while practicing CPR. The OLLI members are now ready to assist with their new confidence and understanding on the proper CPR procedure and use of the AED.

A Chair Yoga class, with Mandy Lyons, was offered at a reduced rate due to support from First Bank and Trust. This three session class was held at Prairie Soul Yoga Studio. The OLLI members tested their abilities of bending, twisting and stretching movements with modified yoga poses while seated. They practiced various breathing techniques, use of stretch bands, blocks and straps to increase relaxation and strength while correctly moving all parts of the body. By the end of the sessions, the members learned the peaceful practice of accessible yoga to improve their quality of life and well-being.

Austin Buysse, SDSU athletic facilities and event manager, led a tour of the SDSU Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium and Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex. This unique two-hour experience took the OLLI members to places of limited general public accessibility.

The highlights were the football trophy room to view the two NCAA National Championship trophies and the Dakota Marker, standing on the outdoor deck of the Stiegelmeier Family Center overlooking the north end of the football field goal posts and being in the athletic director’s and the Dykhouse family’s private suites overlooking the stadium. An added surprise was a partnership between First Bank & Trust and SDSU Jackrabbit Central that generously allowed each OLLI member to spend $20 at Jackrabbit Central.
