Brookings seeks nominees for 2024 Mayor's Generational Leadership Award

BROOKINGS — The city of Brookings is accepting nominations for the 2024 Mayor’s Generational Leadership Award. The award recognizes the importance of young leaders who help make the community vibrant and dynamic. The nomination deadline is 5 p.m. Aug. 1.

The award is given to a community member age 35 or younger who has impacted the community in the following ways:

  • Positively changes how people think about the community and city
  • Helps Brookings attract and retain young professionals and families
  • Motivates new generations to be active in their communities
  • Contributes to the advancement and well-being of the community through service in areas such as education, sports, fundraising, charitable voluntary service, economic development, arts, and the environment

The Mayor’s Generational Leadership Award was created in 2014. Recent past recipients include Brianna Doran, Ashley Biggar, Kyle Bender and Corbin Kratovil.

All nominations will be considered and reviewed by Mayor Oepke “Ope” Niemeyer. Nomination forms, instructions and additional information can be found at www.cityofbrookings-sd.gov/GenerationalLeadershipAward.

Completed nomination forms should be submitted via email to City Clerk Bonnie Foster at BFoster@cityofbrookings-sd.gov. They also can be mailed to or dropped off at the Brookings City & County Government Center, 520 Third St., Suite 230, Brookings. For questions, call 605-697-8641.
