AUSTIN, Texas – South Dakota State's Kyle Burdick punched his ticket to the NCAA Championships in the 1,500-meter run at the NCAA West Preliminary Round on Saturday.

Burdick had a time of 3 minutes, 48.15 seconds in the second heat of the event, earning an automatic qualification to the national meet with a fourth-place finish. Burdick reached the quarterfinals by running a 3:59.35 in the first round Friday with a fourth place finish in his original heat.

Burdick is the first Jackrabbit since 2014 to qualify for the NCAA Championships, as Mary Wirth was an All-American that year.

Bryant Courter was No. 35 in the triple jump, reaching 49 feet 5 3/4 inches on his second jump of the day. Josh Dotson finished 42nd in the event with a distance of 48-6 in his second jump of the night

Zach Kosman tied for 23rd in the high jump, clearing 6-10 3/4 before failing to advance in the event at the next height.

Burdick qualified for nationals in the 1,500 and, after a short break, took the track for the 5,000, where he took 29th in 14:50.14.

The NCAA Championships are June 7-10 in Eugene, Ore.
