BROOKINGS — Calling all dreamers, creators and advocates for inclusivity. Are you passionate about making play accessible to all?

The City of Brookings invites you to an open house to share your ideas about parks, playgrounds and accessibility. All ages are encouraged to attend the open house from 5 to 7 p.m. May 13. The event will take place on the third floor of the Brookings City & County Government Center at 520 Third St. People can come and go as their schedules allow.

“We’re embarking on an exciting journey to design a large accessible play space that welcomes every person, regardless of ability or background,” said Kristin Zimmerman, director of the city’s Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department.

“Whether you’re a parent, child, educator, caregiver, advocate, or simply someone who believes in the power of play, we want to hear from you,” Zimmerman said. “Your perspective is valuable as we work toward making our parks welcoming to all.”

At the open house, people will be able to discuss current accessibility features, gather feedback on areas for improvement, and explore ideas for future enhancements. Children who attend will be able to share their thoughts through playground idea boards.

People who are not able to attend can email their ideas to Zimmerman at kzimmerman@cityofbrookings-sd.gov. For questions about the open house, please contact the Parks department at 605-692-2708.
