SIOUX FALLS – South Dakota State had a conference-high four individuals chosen to The Summit League Women’s Soccer Academic All-League Team, announced Wednesday. The four student-athletes were picked to the team by a vote conducted among the league’s communication directors and faculty athletics representatives.
The Jackrabbits that made the 2022 Women’s Soccer Academic All-League Team were Hailee Fischer, Kaycee Manding, Laney Murdzek and Jocelyn Tanner.
Fischer and Tanner combined to serve as one of the best goalkeeping tandems in Division I soccer. Heading into the 2022 NCAA Women’s College Cup this weekend, the two combined for the fifth best goals-against average in the nation (.474) and the eighth best save percentage (.866). They also recorded the 14th best shutout percentage of .579 in Division I women’s soccer.
Both Fischer and Tanner hold cumulative grade-point averages of 4.0. Tanner was the 2022 Summit League Goalkeeper of the Year and has earned repeat honors on the conference’s Academic All-League Team. Fischer was the league’s Scholar Athlete of the 2022 Championship tournament.
Manding and Murdzek were each Summit League First Team performers this season on the pitch. Manding was a standout on the back row for the Jackrabbits and recorded a career-high five assists. Murdzek played a vital role to SDSU’s midfield and scored 11 points which was second most on the Jackrabbit roster. Manding holds a 3.87 GPA while Murdzek has a 3.90 GPA.
The four selections to the Academic All-League Team are the most for the SDSU program in a single season. South Dakota State’s 2022 campaign ended with a 13-1-5 record. The Jackrabbits’ .816 winning percentage was the second best in SDSU’s 23 years as a program.
