PIERRE — South Dakota high school juniors and seniors wanting to serve as pages for the historic 100th dession of the South Dakota Legislature in 2025 should submit their application materials now to hit the preferred deadline of Oct. 4.

Applicants can be from any school district in the state, including home-schooled students. The program gives them the opportunity to participate in the legislative process by serving in the House of Representatives or the Senate for one of five terms during the 2025 session’s main run.

The 100th South Dakota Legislative Session runs from Jan. 14 to March 31, with a recess from March 14-28.

Pages are assigned to committee meetings in the mornings and Chamber floor sessions in the afternoons, assist in the Legislative Post Office, and help legislators, as needed. During their term, pages not only learn about the legislative process but also participate in scheduled social events, including a meeting with the governor. Pages earn $55 for each legislative day they work.

To apply, the student must have signed sponsorship approval by a current legislator or legislator-elect as well as written permission from their school and submit a completed application and cover letter.

Information on the Legislative page program, including an application, can be found on the Legislative Research Council’s website here.

While serving as pages, students are housed in family homes in Pierre and Fort Pierre, preferably in groups of two or more. Homeowners willing to provide page housing are asked to complete the housing questionnaire on the LRC website or call 605-773-3251 to request that a copy of the housing form be mailed to them.

The preferred application deadline for legislative pages is Oct. 4, with a final deadline of Oct. 18.

Students wanting more information should contact the Legislative Page Advisor, Legislative Research Council, 500 East Capitol, Pierre, SD 57501; email PageProgram@sdlegislature.gov; or call 605-773-3251.
