DEADWOOD — According to statistics released earlier this month by the South Dakota Commission on Gaming, Deadwood’s April 2023 gaming handle was up 7.81 percent over April 2022, with slot machine handle increasing by 7.88 percent, when compared to April of 2022.

The table game handle increased by 5.26 percent when compared to 2022 April’s table game handle.

Deadwood’s sports wagering handle was up 33.79 percent when compared to April 2022. Deadwood gaming operators rewarded players with $1,396,620 in “free-play” for the month of April, leaving taxable adjusted gross revenues of $9,544,020 for April of 2023.

“2023 continues to be a strong year for Deadwood gaming,” said Mike Rodman, executive director of the Deadwood Gaming Association. “We are especially pleased to see the surprising April numbers for sports wagering, led by Major League Baseball. April’s performance puts us up 3.22 percent YTD over last year and on track to be our best year ever.”

Deadwood’s summer season kicks off this Memorial weekend with free concerts, a motorcycle show, and a bucking horse event, along with the start of the Deadwood Alive street performances and the Trial of Jack McCall.
