WACO, Texas – The South Dakota State equestrian team closed their season after day one of the 2019 NCEA National Championship on Wednesday.
The Jacks fell in Reining to No. 4 SMU, 3-1, to open the day. Catelyn Hall scored a 203 in her ride to earn the team’s lone point.
SDSU dropped Equitation over Fences to No. 7 Georgia 4-0. Alexa Maiello paced the team with her ride of 225, with Claire Garduno scoring a 222.
Maiello also scored the team high in Equitation on the Flat with a ride of 212 to defeat her opponent and give the Jacks a point, but No. 5 Georgia won the event 3-1.
SDSU put together a strong showing in Horsemanship with Whitney Vesey scoring a 215.5 and Kodi O’Boyle and Jadyn Taylor each scoring a 215. But it wasn’t enough, as Baylor won the event 3-1.
