BROOKINGS — The public is invited to “An Evening with Jeffrey Rosen,” set for 6 to 7 p.m. Oct. 16 in the Larson Memorial Concert Hall at the Oscar Larson Performing Arts Center on the South Dakota State University campus.

Rosen, a noted legal scholar, is president and CEO of the National Constitution Center and a professor of law at the George Washington University Law School. At SDSU, he will present “The History and Future of the American Idea.”

SDSU is hosting Rosen in collaboration with the South Dakota Center for Civic Engagement at Black Hills State University. The event is free and open to the public, and a speaker meet-and-greet will follow.

“We are looking forward to welcoming Jeffrey Rosen to South Dakota State University for what promises to be an engaging and thought-provoking evening,” said Dennis Hedge, SDSU provost and vice president for academic affairs. “Civic knowledge and effective engagement are key to healthy communities, and this event is an opportunity for our students and all others in attendance to learn from one of our nation’s leading experts in this area.”

The National Constitution Center, located in Philadelphia, serves as America’s leading platform for constitutional education and debate. Rosen hosts a weekly podcast of constitutional debate, “We the People.”

Rosen is the author of “The Pursuit of Happiness: How Classical Writers on Virtue Inspired the Lives of the Founders and Defined America.” His other books include the New York Times bestseller “Conversations with RBG: Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg on Life, Love, Liberty and Law,” as well as biographies of Louis Brandeis and William Howard Taft.

Rosen is a graduate of Harvard College; Oxford University, where he was a Marshall Scholar; and Yale Law School.
