Fast start lifts Huron over Brookings

HURON – The Tigers used a fast start and balanced scoring attack to beat the Bobcats 66-53 in an Eastern South Dakota Conference boys’ basketball game Thursday night at Huron Arena.

Huron raced out to a 22-5 lead after a quarter.

Brookings pulled within 38-25 at halftime. The teams played even after the break, with the home squad taking a 57-44 advantage into the fourth period.

The Tigers’ Tanner Evers posted a double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds.

Nathan Boehrns had 18 points and seven boards. He hit five 3-pointers.

Teegan Evers added 16 points and six rebounds, while Cooper Fryberger chipped in with 11 markers.

Huron shot 51 percent (26-of-51) from the field.

Drew Cole had a big game for the Bobcats.

The senior dropped in 29 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to complete the double-double. He went 8-of-23 from the field, including 5-of-10 from long range, and 8-of-9 at the free-throw line.

Trevor Woodall added eight points, Trent Broksieck seven and Ryan Treiber six.

Brookings (2-4, 2-3) heads to Brandon Valley for a game tonight at 7.

Huron (5-1, 2-0) plays host to Mitchell on Saturday.
