Gloria Ann Krumm was born Aug. 11, 1935, in Pipestone, MN. the daughter of Walter and Ethel (Sumption) Heldt. She peacefully passed away surrounded by family on June 14, 2024, at United Living Community in Brookings, SD.
Visitations will be from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 18, at Eidsness Funeral Chapel in Volga. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 19, at Lake Campbell Lutheran Church with burial in First Lutheran Cemetery at Volga, SD.
Gloria was raised in southwest Minnesota until age 13 at which time the family moved to a farm near Volga, SD. She received her education at Volga Country No. 96. Gloria was united in marriage to Stanley ‘Spinner’ Krumm, on December 23, 1956 in Pipestone, MN, and to this union six children were born. Stanley passed away on March 3, 2010.
Gloria worked many years as a nurse’s aide having worked at facilities in Volga and Brookings, SD. Never one to sit still, after retirement Gloria returned to work as a custodian at Sioux Valley High School. She was lovingly referred to as “Grandma Glo” by many of the children. She enjoyed crocheting, gardening, coloring photos, had an incredible love of animals and thoroughly enjoyed dancing. She was an avid music lover who never met a tune that wouldn’t set her feet and hands tapping along with the beat. Gloria spent many hours in her kitchen canning vegetables from the garden, listening to polka or country music, and providing meals to anyone willing to join. Gloria’s Goulash was a family favorite. There was rarely an empty chair at the table when goulash was on the menu.
Above all else, the greatest joy of Gloria’s life was family and spending time with them. Although tiny in stature, the love she had for everyone in her family could move mountains and was felt by all.
Survivors include five children: Sheila Ohlsen of Brookings, SD, Ronald Krumm of Mitchell, SD, Jon Krumm of Sioux Falls, SD, Rolland Krumm of Volga, SD, and Jerome (Misti) Krumm of Sioux Falls, SD; 16 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; sisters Shirley (Jess) Hanson of Nunda and Fay (David) Hansen of Ramona, SD; brother David (Vonnie) Heldt of Volga, SD, sister-in-law, Donna Heldt of Fremont, NE, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by husband Stanley Krumm; parents Walter and Ethel Heldt; brothers Walter Jr., Charles, Jim and Allen Heldt, daughters Deb Pederson and Susan Joyce; and great-great grandchildren Somphone and Ezekiel.
