KANSAS CITY, Mo. – South Dakota State’s Maya Hansen and Rachel Preston were honored Monday as members of the 2021 NCAA Division I Women’s All-West Region Team as selected by the United Soccer Coaches. Hansen received second-team honors while Preston was a third-team selection.
A junior forward from Savage, Minnesota, Hansen led the team in scoring with 14 goals and 35 points, while sharing the team lead with seven assists. She set a Jackrabbit record by scoring a goal in six consecutive games to open Summit League play.
Preston, a senior defender from Lakeville, Minnesota, anchored a back line that limited the opposition to an average of one goal per game with 11 shutouts. She played a team-high 1,835 minutes and tallied two goals and two assists for six points.
Both Hansen and Preston were first-team all-Summit League performers this fall for a Jackrabbit squad that won the conference tournament championship to earn a berth in the NCAA College Cup. South Dakota State, coached by Brock Thompson, set a school record for victories in a season, finishing the 2021 campaign with a 17-4-1 overall record.
