Irene J. ‘Judy’ Beste, 71, of Estelline died Friday, March 16, 2018, at the Estelline Nursing and Care Center.
Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Estelline. Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the church with a liturgical wake service followed by a Rosary beginning at 6:30 p.m. Geise Funeral Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
Irene Javier Ortega was born on June 26, 1946, in Libacao, Aklan, Republic of the Philippines, the daughter of Juan and Encarnacion (Javier) Ortega. She spent her early years growing up in Libacao. She married Dennis Beste in Angeles City, Republic of the Philippines on Jan. 15, 1970. Following their marriage, the couple moved back to the United States and settled in Estelline. She provided daycare for a short time. She began working at 3M in Brookings in 1974, until her retiring for medical reasons, in 1990.
Judy collected dolls, enjoyed golfing and flower gardening. She was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, the Alter Society, American Legion Auxilliary and Lake Region Golf Course. Her chihuahua, Angel, was her pride and joy.
Judy is survived by her husband, Dennis Beste, of Estelline; a brother, Leopoldo Ortega, of the Republic of the Philippines; a special niece, Primy Carballo, of Brookings; great nephew, Rudil Trias, of Estelline and a host of nieces, nephews, and in-laws.
She was preceded in death by two brothers and seven sisters.
