Jackrabbits rack up 17 PRs at Sioux City Relays

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – The South Dakota State Jackrabbits made the most of their trip to the Sioux City Relays, tallying 17 personal-best marks while Thomas Breuckman claimed the lone Jackrabbit event title of the day.

Breuckman’s win in the 5,000 meters in 15 minutes, 3.04 seconds is his first solo-event title. He cut 18.19 seconds off his best to claim the title.

Cal Lawton led SDSU in both the 400- and 800-meter runs, finishing eighth overall in 50.66 seconds with his outdoor and overall personal-best mark in the 400. In the 800, he earned the bronze (1:54.83) for his eighth career outdoor top-three finish.

Derek Boekelhiede notched a personal-best in the 800 in 1:57.81 to finish 15th overall.

Lauren Van Dyke, Jessica Christoffer, and Nichole Sample scored personal-best marks on the women’s side as Van Dyke placed fourth in the 400; while Christoffer (2:25.31) and Sample (2:25.77) finished 20th and 21st, respectively, in the 800.

In the 1,500-meter run, Michael Schwinghamer (4:01.41) and Riley Bauer (4:03.20) ran personal-best marks to place fourth and seventh, respectively, while Rachel Propst tallied  a third-place finish with her best time of 4:48.02.

In the throwing events, Caitlin Thilges threw the discus 127 feet, 11 inches for seventh as shot putter Faith Leiseth went 39 feet, 1 1/2 inches for ninth – both PRs.

Alex Dynes tied for 12th whit a put of 37, 11.5; Miranda Zinola placed fifth in the hammer throw with a mark of 160-10; while Naomi Wynn was 10th after throwing 145-6.

On the men’s side in the throws, Samuel Coil put the shot 47-10.75 for a PR and a third-place finish.

Logan Ammons earned his fourth career runner-up finish in the hammer throw with a mark of 187-10.

The Jackrabbits are scheduled to compete to make another trip out to California to compete in three meets - the Bryan Clay Invite (April 17-19), the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate (April 18), and the Mt. SAC Relays (April 18-20).
