SIOUX FALLS — South Dakota State swept an Interstate Series doubleheader, presented by First Interstate Bank, over South Dakota in Vermillion this past Thursday. Two standouts on the day, Mia Jarecki and Tori Kniesche, were chosen as The Summit League’s TicketSmarter Peak Performer and Pitcher of the Week on Monday the conference office announced.

Jarecki earned her first career Summit League weekly honors, while Kniesche was recognized for the second time this season and 15th time of her college career.

The Papillion, Neb., native tied a program record and had a career day in the pair of victories over the Coyotes. Jarecki went 4-for-4 at the plate in game one to go along with a home run, two RBIs, three runs scored and three stolen bases. Her three stolen bases tied the SDSU record for a single game. She followed that game up with a two-hit performance and another three runs scored. In the doubleheader, Jarecki hit 6-for-7 with two RBIs, six runs scored, five stolen bases and a home run.

Kniesche pitched the first game of the doubleheader against South Dakota. Nobody reached base through the first five innings of play, while Kniesche struck out seven of the 15 batters she faced to that point. Kniesche recorded another strikeout to begin the sixth, but a walk drawn by a Coyote batter ended her perfect-game bid. Her no-hitter remained though.

SDSU’s senior pitcher got a flyout and strikeout to end the sixth. In the seventh, she got the Yotes to hit into two flyouts as well as an infield popup to close the game out. The Wayne, Neb., native ended the game by throwing a complete game, no-hitter. She struck out nine batters and walked just one. It was Kniesche’s ninth no-hitter of her college career and the second for her this season. She now has an 8-5 record.
