Larson, Jackrabbits trounce Mavericks

OMAHA, Neb. – Tagyn Larson had a career night as South Dakota State drubbed Omaha, 82-38, in Summit League women’s basketball action Wednesday night at Baxter Arena.

Larson went 11-of-11 from the field – a school record – while scoring 27 points in 23 minutes. She was 5-of-5 on 3-pointers and added nine rebounds and four blocked shots.

The Jackrabbits (19-6), who won their ninth consecutive game, remained atop the league standings with an 11-1 mark. The last-place Mavericks (7-18) fell to 1-11.

The Jackrabbits were on top 17-11 after a quarter, pushed the margin to 39-18 at halftime and led 65-29 at the end of three.

SDSU assisted on 24 of its 31 field goals while shooting 50 percent. The Jackrabbits were 10-of-22 on 3s and committed just eight turnovers.

South Dakota State takes on North Dakota State on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Fargo, N.D.

Notes: The previous SDSU record for most field goals in a game without a miss was 10, accomplished by Laurie Kruse versus North Dakota State on Jan. 23, 1990, and Shannon Schlagel against Incarnate Word on Nov. 28, 2003. … Guebert moved from seventh to sixth in SDSU history with 1,684 career points, passing Jennifer Johnson (1,676 from 1981-85). She needs five points to move into the top five. Guebert jumped from 14th to 13th in the Summit League ranks. She has 341 career 3-pointers. … Miller now has 2,129 points in her career.
