Local health care providers offer post-partum support for parents

Posted

BROOKINGS – Avera Behavioral Health Brookings and Brookings Health System are collaborating to offer a free hybrid postpartum support group for parents in Brookings and the surrounding area. These hybrid support group sessions are facilitated by licensed clinicians Elizabeth Milton, LPC-MH and Curstie Konold, CSW QMHP. Sessions will take place Mondays starting Sept. 19 from 10-11:30 a.m. and will be at Brookings Health System in Conference Room C.

According to a joint press release from both businesses, “You do not have to handle life on your own. The adjustment of baby is an exciting time and is also a normal time to experience difficulties or chemical imbalances. You deserve support during this time and at times it can be dangerous to ‘power through’ and not treat mental health risks. Avera is here to support your mental health and encourage you to take this time for yourself.”

If you have any questions or to register, call Avera Behavioral Health Brookings at 605-692-5447.

Participants will receive an email with Zoom details upon registration if joining virtually.

If you are experiencing thoughts of suicide, thoughts of self-harm and/or harming others contact your local crisis line at 988 or go to your nearest emergency room.

Disclaimers and group rules:

• This group is to provide emotional support, information, encouragement and resources.

• This group is not a substitute for medical help. Consult your healthcare provider for medical advice or if you have questions regarding your health and well-being.

• Discussions are confidential. However, support group managers will contact an emergency contact if they are concerned about participants’ safety or the safety of others.

• This is a safe space for all.
