Marlin T. Hill, 74, of Brookings died Friday, March 3, 2017, at Brookings Health System. Funeral services are at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First Lutheran Church in Brookings. Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday at Rude's Funeral Home.
Marlin was born on Sept. 9, 1942, in Brookings, the son of Arley D. and Ruth A. (Nelson) Hill. He was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Brookings. Marlin received his elementary education in rural Brookings County, Grandview District No.1. He graduated from Brookings High School in 1960, and continued his education at South Dakota State University. Later, he returned to farm with his dad on the family farm north of Brookings. He farmed until 1998 and then worked in Brookings at various jobs, retiring in 2016.
Marlin married Kathy Ivers on Jan. 8, 1966. They had two sons, Scott and Todd. Marlin and his family lived in Brookings for nine years and then moved to the family farm in 1975.
Throughout his life, Marlin was involved in many community organizations and activities as well as First Lutheran Church.
Marlin will be remembered for his love of his family, the land and farming; as well as his smile and his ability to visit and laugh with everyone he met.
Survivors include his wife, Kathy Hill, of Brookings; two sons, Scott (Pam), of Volga and Todd (Laura), of Sioux Falls; a grandson; a great-grandson; a great-granddaughter; three sisters, Joanne (Dale) Saxton, of Roseville, Minn., Elaine (James) Sellers, of Pickstown and Karen (Ronald) Paulson, of Sulphur Springs, Texas; two brothers-in-law, O’Dean Olson, of Rapid City, and James H. Ivers, of Brookings; sister-in-law, Toni Hill, of Fargo, N.D.; two step sisters-in-law, Carolann Dieringer, of Joseph, Ore., and Lanette Prazeau, of Eagle Creek, Ore; two step brothers-in-law, Bob (Sandy) Prazeau, of Portland, Ore. and Dennis (Lail) Prazeau, Lastine, Ore; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Marlin was preceded in death by his grandsons, Thomas J. Hill and Matthew T. Hill; sisters, Ardys R. Olson and Eleanor A. Beaudette; brother, Rodney A. Hill; great nephews, Logan R. Knight and Landon Olson; parents-in-law, Max and Verna Ivers; step mother-in-law, Clarice and step brother-in-law, Mike Prazeau.
