SIOUX FALLS — South Dakota State right-hander Nic McCay was honored for the second Monday in a row as the TicketSmarter Summit League Peak Pitcher of the Week.
In his March 22 outing against St. Thomas, McCay pitched eight shutout innings in a 1-0 Jackrabbit victory. A senior from Carlisle, Iowa, McCay struck out eight while allowing three hits, one walk and one hit batter.
In improving to 2-0 on the season, McCay lowered his earned run average to 2.28 over five starts. He has struck out 38 batters in 27 2/3 innings and is limiting the opposition to a .206 batting average.
South Dakota State, 11-12 overall and tied atop the league standings with St. Thomas at 4-1, returns to action with a three-game series against Northern Colorado. The series has been moved from Brookings to Papillion, Nebraska, and will consist of a single game Thursday and a doubleheader Friday. Action starts at 1 p.m. each day at Papillion La Vista South High School.
