Michael Martin McCann, 56, died Dec. 25, 2021, at Sanford Hospital, from complications of Cold Agglutinin Disorder – a rare autoimmune disorder.
Mike was born in Spearfish, SD on April 22, 1965. He attended school in Brookings, SD, through his junior year of high school. He graduated from Harding County High School, Buffalo, SD, in 1984. Mike attended Black Hills State University for one year and graduated from South Dakota State University with a Commercial Economics degree.
Growing up Mike enjoyed spending time with his Aunt Peggy and Glen Brown on their ranch in Buffalo, SD, with his cousins Tim, Sharlet, Deb and friend Tony Albright.
He had a passion for music, from being a DJ and running sound, to booking and managing bands, throughout college and after. He then worked at Gateway Computer, Yellow Freight and Dollar Loan Center before opening a successful business of his own, Quality Lenders Inc.
Mike loved to travel and was fortunate enough to explore many parts of the world. He enjoyed watching the Minnesota Vikings and has been a season ticket holder for over a decade. He enjoyed writing his thoughts and feelings down and had a poetic way with words. He was an avid lover of live music and attended many concerts. Above all else, Mike loved spending every spare moment with his three kids.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents: Walton and Kathleen Thune, Buffalo, SD; William and Elizabeth McCann, Brookings, SD.
Mike is survived by his parents – Michael and Judy McCann, Brookings, SD; Jerry (Joanne) Christofferson, Blackhawk, SD; Daughter - Liza McCann (Kyle Barber) Denver, CO; Son – Brady McCann, Colorado Springs, CO; their mother Lori McCann (former spouse) Chandler, AZ; Daughter – Nadia McCann and her mother, Morgan McCann (former spouse) Sioux Falls, SD; Brother – Dalyn McCann (Angela) and their children Dalton, Jesse and Alexis, Buffalo, SD; Sister – Kathy McCann and son William, Watertown, SD; Sister – Michelle Chillstrom and her daughter Beatrice, Seattle, WA; many cousins, aunts and uncles.
As Mike himself wrote:
No one ever really goes away
Energy is forever
They just return to the stardust
To mingle and dance for eternity
