South Dakota State’s Brittney Morse has been named the Summit League’s Softball Player of the Week, announced Monday by the league office.
Morse led the Jackrabbits with a .600 average and .900 slugging percentage last week, helping SDSU claim its series over rival South Dakota. Morse reached safely in all three games, including two multi-hit and multi-RBI performances. She finished the week with eight runs batted in while hitting her sixth home run of the season.
In game one Thursday, Morse was 2-for-3 with a trio of RBIs including a two-run single in the fourth that helped State regain a 4-2 lead in the fourth. In Saturday’s rubber game, Morse drove in five to carry the Jacks to a 7-0 shutout victory. Morse put SDSU ahead 3-0 in the third with a three-run home run, and two innings later sent a bases-loaded, two-RBI single to the gap as the Jackrabbits went up seven.
This is the second time Morse has earned the league’s weekly honor, picking up the award once last season.
After canceling its game with Drake on Wednesday, South Dakota State is scheduled to host North Dakota State this Saturday and Sunday.
