BROOKINGS — All are invited to participate in the annual celebration of LGBTQ+ and Two Spirit Pride. The festival will occur at the Pioneer Park picnic shelter (south of the bandshell) on June 22 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The festival highlight will be an all-ages drag show featuring two local performers — Kassy Kain and Brandi Sours. They will be joined by three performers from the region.

The Brookings Mayor Oepke "Ope" Niemeyer will be issuing a proclamation at noon.

Speakers from Brookings Human Rights Commission, Brookings PFLAG, Transformation Project, Equality SD, and ACLU-SD will be interspersed throughout the drag show. Sheryl Johnson, Democratic candidate for U.S. House, will also be speaking.

There will be 50 vendor booths, including commercial, arts and crafts, and nonprofit organizations.

Schroeders Snak Shak, La Petite Crepe and Aloha Shave Ice food trucks will provide food & drink.

The city’s pride flags are currently on display in downtown Main Avenue from June 17-23. The Brookings Human Rights Commission is a co-sponsor of the event.
