BROOKINGS – Miyah Foerster registered a hat trick along with an assist and Savannah Barber had four assists as the Brookings Rangers girls varsity team picked up a big 8-2 win over Sioux Center on Friday night at the Larson Ice Center in Brookings.

Ranger girls blow out Sioux Center Storm, 8-2

BROOKINGS – Miyah Foerster registered a hat trick along with an assist and Savannah Barber had four assists as the Brookings Rangers girls varsity team picked up a big 8-2 win over Sioux Center on Friday night at the Larson Ice Center in Brookings.

The Rangers got on the board quickly when Taryn Richter beat Storm goalie Allison Moore just 44 seconds into the game to put Brookings up 1-0. Savannah Barber and Miyah Foerster had the helpers.

Foerster tallied four minutes later off a Barber assist to give Brookings a 2-0 lead, then just past the midway point of the period Richter added her second goal of a Jayda Geraets assist to give Brookings a 3-0 cushion.

Anna Rasmussen and Foerster found the back of the net to give the homestanding Rangers a 5-0 lead before Sioux Center’s Carlee Lange scored just before the first period horn to trim the lead to 5-1 going to the first intermission.

Kiran Vugteveen made it 6-1 Brookings early in the second period before the Storm would answer just 89 seconds later to again cut the lead to four at 6-2.

Foerster completed her hat trick with 6:43 to play in the game to extend the lead to 7-2, and Kinzey Grendler made it 8-2 with 1:21 left to account for the for the final 8-2 margin.

Foerster (three goals, assist), Richter (two goals, two assists), and Barber (four assists) had four points for the Rangers.

Aletha Baker stopped 16 of 18 shots she faced to pick up the win in goal.

The Rangers hit the road this weekend for a pair of games. Brookings visits Aberdeen on Saturday to face the Cougars, and on Sunday the Oahe Capitals welcome the Rangers to the capital city.
