BROOKINGS/MITCHELL – The Rangers picked up a weekend sweep in South Dakota Amateur Hockey Association girls’ action, beating Huron 7-0 at home Friday and then prevailing 4-3 at Mitchell on Saturday.

BROOKINGS/MITCHELL – The Rangers picked up a weekend sweep in South Dakota Amateur Hockey Association girls’ action, beating Huron 7-0 at home Friday and then prevailing 4-3 at Mitchell on Saturday.

Brookings (6-2) heads to Sioux Falls on Saturday for a 2:30 p.m. matchup.

Friday

 Brookings 7, Huron 0

The Rangers built a 4-0 lead after a period en route to the victory.

Jadyn Runge made 15 saves to earn the shutout between the pipes.

Kiran Vugteveen paced the offense with four points – two goals and two assists.

Vugteveen opened the scoring less than a minute into the game on an assist from Savannah Barber.

Anna Rasmussen (15:23), Addison Ramlo (6:31) and Emma Rice (6:16) added opening-period tallies. Barber had three assists in the frame, with Vugteveen adding two.

Payton Triplett and Janaya Kuehl had goals in the second.

Vugteveen lit the lamp in the third, with assists going to Ramlo and Kinzey Grendler.

Saturday

 Brookings 4, Mitchell 3

Vugteveen completed her hat trick by netting the game-winner with 9:08 remaining as the Rangers rallied past the Marlins in the MAC Toshiba.

Mitchell’s Brooke Jarman scored twice in an 80-second span late in the first. Vugteveen scored with 1:18 left in the first on an assist from Ramlo.

Vugteveen then pulled the Rangers even with 1:52 left in the second.

Kelsey Amick’s power-play tally with just 2 seconds remaining in the period put the Marlins ahead.

Alexis Schelske scored with 9:44 to go in the game, knotting things up at 3-3.

Barber assisted on Vugteveen’s go-ahead tally.

Runge stopped 30 shots.
