BROOKINGS — Two members of the Brookings Rangers were honored as forward Owen Schneider and defenseman Luke Honkomp were named to the All-Tournament team for last week’s 2024 Chipotle-USA Hockey National Championships in West Chester, Pa.
Schneider made the team after he was the leading scorer of the tournament after scoring seven goals with nine assists and 16 points in six games. Schneider’s performance came off a tremendous season where he finished first in the South Dakota Amateur Hockey Association with 33 points and finished second in the state with 63 points in conference play.
Honkomp also made the All-Tournament team as a key distributor from the blue line. Honkomp finished eighth in the state with 48 points with six goals and 42 assists during the regular season and led all defensemen in points at the tournament with two goals, nine assists and 11 points at the National Championship Tournament.
The Rangers won five of their six games during the tournament, finishing undefeated in group play and defeating Owen J. Roberts (Pa.) and Centennial (Ariz.) before losing 3-2 in overtime to Valor (Colo.) in the national championship game on Mar. 22.
Brookings finished the year with a record of 38-2-1 and won their fourth straight SDAHA State Championship.
