BROOKINGS – South Dakota State Director of Golf Casey VanDamme announced Friday that Sam Batta from Watertown High School’s Class of 2018 will enroll at South Dakota State and play for the Jackrabbits next season.
“I’m really excited about Sam joining the program. He has shot some really low scores and I think his best golf is ahead of him,” VanDamme said. “I look forward to what he can bring to our program.”
Batta is a three-time all-state performer and a four-time All-Eastern South Dakota Conference honoree for the Arrows. He also picked up all-tournament honors at the 2016-17 Class AA state tournament in October.
The five-year letterwinner won four career tournaments and had 14 top-five and 20 top-10 finishes in 50 rounds. Batta finished his high school career with a 76.58 stroke percentage, including a 73.1 as a senior.
The 2017 academic all-state honoree received the Arrow Award four times, the Tenacity Award twice and was team captain twice. He led his team in scoring three years
Batta tied for eighth in the 2017 SDGA Amateur Championship with a 1-under-par 212. He also placed fifth at the Junior Championship.
