SIOUX FALLS – The top seeds prevailed as Tea Area beat Pine Ridge, 57-51, and Sioux Falls Christian dropped Lennox, 53-46, in the semifinals of the Class A State Boys’ Basketball Tournament on Friday night at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center.

Tea Area, SF Christian to meet for Class A boys’ championship

SIOUX FALLS – The top seeds prevailed as Tea Area beat Pine Ridge, 57-51, and Sioux Falls Christian dropped Lennox, 53-46, in the semifinals of the Class A State Boys’ Basketball Tournament on Friday night at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center.

The Titans (23-1) and Chargers (21-2) play for the crown tonight at 7:30.

Tea beat Christian 73-50 on the road Jan. 22.

The fourth-seeded Thorpes (19-4) and sixth-seeded Orioles (19-6) square off for third at 3:15 p.m.

Semifinals

 Tea Area 57, Pine Ridge 51

Noah Freidel posted a double-double and the Titans survived a tough matchup with the Thorpes.

Pine Ridge was up 14-13 after a quarter. Tea grabbed a 30-28 halftime lead and had a 47-39 advantage entering the fourth.

Later, Kade Stearns’ basket made it 54-49 with 1:27 remaining. Freidel went 1-of-2 from the stripe with 23 seconds to make it 55-49.

Freidel scored 23 points on 8-of-20 shooting and grabbed 12 rebounds. Stearns and Kaleb Joffer added 11 points apiece.

The Thorpes’ Charles Schrader scored 14 points, Halen Bad Bear 12, Corey Brown 11 and Jesse Jensen eight.

 S.F. Christian 53, Lennox 46

The Chargers used a balanced attack to pick up the victory.

Christian led 16-11 after a quarter, 25-22 at halftime and 39-36 through three.

Xavier Van Beek scored 16 points, Gavin Schipper 12, Mitchell Goodbary 10, Zach Witte eight and Mitchell Oostra seven. Goodbary added eight rebounds and Witte seven, while Van Beek dished out five assists. Goodbary also had six steals.

The Orioles’ Brock Anderson posted a double-double of 17 points and 15 rebounds. Quincy Ihnen chipped in with 14 markers.

Consolation semifinals

• St. Thomas More 58, Madison 43

Ryan Wojcik posted a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Cavaliers.

STM led 16-13 after a quarter, pushed the advantage to 29-14 at halftime and led 45-27 at the end of three.

Caden Casey added nine points and Connor Hollenbeck and Michael Eastmo contributed eight apiece.

The Bulldogs’ Doyle Brown, Nic Comes and Keaton Nighbert each scored eight points.

 Dell Rapids 47, Hot Springs 37

The Quarriers led 10-6 after a quarter, 27-24 at halftime and 36-29 heading to the fourth.

Drew Van Regenmorter notched a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds. Logan Heim added 13 points and six boards. Colin Rentz and Coby Maeschen each scored seven points. Logan Ellingson dished out five assists.

The Bison’s Kelton Harris had a double-double of 12 points and 10 boards. Matt Norton chipped in with nine points. Carl Massa, who grabbed 10 rebounds, and Morgan Harkless both added six points.
