BROOKINGS — A pair of local businesses failed alcohol sales compliance checks by the Brookings Police Department on May 16.

The Wild Hare in downtown Brookings and the Lanes bar at the bowling alley both served to an underage buyer, according to a news release from Brookings Police.

Nine other local establishments passed the checks. The BPD does not typically release names of businesses who pass.

This was at least the fourth compliance check the BPD has done this spring.

On March 14, eight of 10 businesses passed the checks. On April 10, four of eight establishments passed. Later in April, seven of 10 businesses passed.

According to the South Dakota Department of Revenue, fines and penalties can be imposed on licensees, clerks and those who furnish alcohol to underage individuals. Complete details can be found online at https://tinyurl.com/ytr9dejf.
