BROOKINGS – South Dakota State University Professor John Walker will present a faculty piano recital at 7:30 p.m. Monday, March 19, in the Performing Arts Center on the SDSU campus.
Walker will perform a varied program of solo and chamber ensemble works, including his own compositions and arrangements. The program will also dedicate the newly acquired 1933 Steinway concert grand piano to its donor, the late Patricia Noethe Pierce.
The concert is free and open to the public.
The recital will begin with three sonatas by the Baroque composer Domenico Scarlatti, followed by a new piece for clarinet and piano “Pentozali” featuring SDSU’s Michael Walsh on clarinet. Also on the first half will be a world-premiere performance of “Four Piano Pieces” by renowned composer David Maslanka.
Walker will be joined by Leah Walker, bassoon, and faculty members Yi Chen, alto saxophone; Aaron Ragsdale, percussion; David Reynolds, trumpet; Walsh, and Tammy Yonce, flute.
The second half of the program will feature a favorite piano work of Pierce, the “Waldstein” Sonata by Ludwig van Beethoven.
