BROOKINGS – Watertown and the Rapid City Post 22 Bullets both went 2-0 on the opening day of the 'Chutes Junior Legion Baseball Tournament.

Host Post 74 went 0-2.

BROOKINGS – Watertown and the Rapid City Post 22 Bullets both went 2-0 on the opening day of the ‘Chutes Junior Legion Baseball Tournament.

Host Post 74 went 0-2.

The round-robin tourney concludes today.

Post 17 finished with 15 hits and broke the game open with 12 runs in the third inning.

Parker Schmidt went 3-for-3 with a triple, a double, four RBIs and three runs scored.

Adam DeJong and Dawsyn Wirkus both went 2-for-2 with a double and three RBIs.

Matthew Glines was 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs. Mason Morris, who scored three times, and Brandon Florey both contributed two hits and an RBI. Sully Mack also totaled a pair of hits.

Nathan Gonnelly gave up two hits and three walks with three strikeouts in three innings to pick up the win.

The ‘Chutes’ Trevor Berreth and Daniel Messerli both singled. Caden McKeown, Parker Rykhus and Kane Kurtenbach each drew a walk. Rykhus was hit by a pitch.

Brock Luze took the loss, surrendering six runs on eight hits and three walks with two strikeouts over 2 1/3 innings.

Brayden Burrus went 4-for-5 with a double, three RBIs and three runs scored as the Bullets held off the ‘Chutes.

Thomas Maguire was 3-for-4 with three RBIs. JT Kostenbauer and Bridger Nesbit added two hits apiece.

Blake Weaver pitched five innings in the win, allowing six runs – five earned – on seven hits and four walks with six strikeouts. Colton Hartford allowed two runs – one earned – on two hits with two strikeouts over the final two frames to pick up the save.

Just four of Post 22’s 12 runs were earned, as Post 74 committed seven errors.

Brookings’ Trevor Berreth went 3-for-3 with two runs scored.

Parker Rykhus had four RBIs, which included a two-run single.

Daniel Messerli, who doubled, and Caden McKeown both scored twice.

Berreth took the loss after surrendering seven runs – just one earned – on nine hits and a walk with a strikeout over four innings of work.

Post 17 raced out to a 6-0 lead after two innings and added five runs in the fourth to move ahead 11-2 en route to the win.

Cooper Heiser finished 3-for-4 with a double and four RBIs.

Sully Mack tripled, doubled and drove in four runs.

Nathan Gonnelly also tripled and doubled while adding one RBI and scoring four times. Parker Schmidt and Matthew Glines added two hits and one RBI apiece.

Tucker Bayles earned the pitching win after giving up three runs – one earned – on two hits and five walks with four strikeouts in five innings.

Post 8’s Maguire Raske doubled. Andrew Coverdale and Matthew Lusk were both credited with an RBI.

Alex Badger was the losing pitcher, allowing 11 runs – 10 earned – on 10 hits and three walks with three strikeouts in 3 2/3 innings.

The Bullets scored in every inning while totaling nine hits and drawing 14 free passes, including 12 walks.

Jeremy Weidmann went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and a pair of runs scored.

Blake Weaver was 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and two runs.

Jacob Hafner, who scored four times and walked three times, and Brayden Burns both finished 1-for-1 with two RBIs. Troy Wilhelm, who doubled, and True Synhorst both scored three runs.

Jake Goble gave up five runs – three earned – on seven hits and four walks with five strikeouts in five innings to earn the win. He doubled.

The Smittys’ Mason Mehlhoff ended up 3-for-3 with a double and three RBIs. Brandon Fauth drove in two runs.

Hunter Ringgenberg took the loss, surrendering six runs on three hits and five walks in one-plus inning.

He gave up four runs on nine hits and one walk while striking out five batters.

Andrew Coverdale had two hits and a pair of RBIs.

Van Camp went 2-for-3 with an RBI at the plate.

Alex Badger doubled and drove in two runs. Cade Hinkle added two hits and an RBI.

Post 24’s Isaac VanOrman had an inside-the-park home run and finished with three RBIs.
