YANKTON – The Bobcats shook off a slow start to beat the Gazelles 53-41 in an Eastern South Dakota Conference girls’ basketball game Monday night at the Summit Center, completing a regular-season sweep.
Yankton grabbed a 13-6 advantage after 8 minutes.
Kelsey Phelps went 3-for-3 from long range in the second quarter while helping Brookings rally for a 19-16 halftime lead. The Bobcats were ahead 34-27 through three.
Michaela Jewett led a balanced attack with 11 points and grabbed seven rebounds.
Ava Burns contributed 10 points. Carolyn Hieb, who went 6-for-6 at the foul line in the fourth frame, and Phelps added nine points apiece.
Baylee Tetzlaff, who had to leave the game with an apparent injury in the first half, scored all eight of her points in the second half.
Yankton’s Maddy Hochstein scored 13 points on 6-of-9 shooting off the bench.
Brookings (8-9, 8-6) plays at Brandon Valley tonight at 7. Yankton (5-12, 5-8) plays host to Huron this evening.
