WATERTOWN – The Bombers Black split a doubleheader with Watertown on the road Monday night. They held onto a lead in Game 1, but were unable to get their offense going in Game 2.
• Brookings 5, Watertown 2
Bomber’s Black hung on to an early lead to win Game 1.
Brookings jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Trenton Pederson led off the inning with a single and Zach Struck followed with a walk. Both of them scored after a one out double from Justin Coffell. Nathan Lease followed Coffell with an RBI double of his own.
Both teams went scoreless in the second and third inning. Then Brookings added another run in the fourth inning when Isaac Schulte hit an RBI single that scored Jaxton Eck.
Watertown cut the lead to 4-2 in the sixth inning after a fielder’s choice and an RBI double.
That was as close as Watertown would get to Brookings. The Bombers picked an insurance run the seventh inning with RBI single from Rocklyn Dauphinais that scored Cofell. Watertown had the bases loaded with two outs in the seventh inning, but the batter flew out to left field giving Brookings a 5-2 victory.
Watertown out-hit Brookings 10-8, but had four errors in the field.
Cofell pitched 4 1/3 scoreless innings giving up five hits. He struck out six batters and walked two. Dauphinais pitched the final 2 2/3 innings giving up two runs on five hits with two strikeouts and one walk.
Cofell went 2-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs. Dauphinais went 1-for-1 with an RBI. Lease and Schulte both went 1-for-3 with an RBI.

The Bombers had three hits in the game and were unable to get the bats going in a 3-1 loss in Game 2.
Brookings opened up the game with a run in the first inning. Pederson and Struck both got on base with a walk. Parker Winghart then hit an RBI single that scored Pederson.
Watertown took the lead in the third inning, scoring three runs. They put together a two out rally with three singles and two walks to score the runs.
Brookings only had one more hit in the remaining three innings and went 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position. The game only went six innings due to daylight.
Winghart pitched three innings for Brookings. He gave up three runs on five hits with two strikeouts and three walks. Carter Wright pitched the remaining two innings and gave up no hits and no runs. He had one strikeout and no walks.
Winghart went 1-for-3 with an RBI. Pederson went 1-for-1 and Cofell went 1-for-3.
Bombers Black will host Sioux Falls East in a doubleheader tonight with the first game starting at 4 p.m.
