Brookings takes two from Douglas

RAPID CITY – The Bobcats pounded out 33 hits in two games to sweep Douglas in a high school baseball doubleheader on Friday.

Brookings won 35-2 in five innings in Game 1 before capping off the sweep with a 7-3 win in the nightcap.

The ‘Cats finish off the road trip on a Saturday with a single game against Rapid City Stevens. First pitch is at noon.

The Bobcats put up double digits in both the second (14) and third (12) innings en route to the five-inning win over the Patriots.

Justin Devine went the distance on the mound for the win after giving up two earned runs on three hits and a walk with eight strikeouts.

Parker Rykhus finished with four hits, including a double, to drive in six runs while Jacob Schoon had five RBIs on three singles.

Caden Wright had four hits, including two doubles, with four RBIs as Tanner Shepardson drove in four runs on a double and a pair of singles.

Brady Ammann finished with three hits and four RBIs; Devine and Jackson Krogman drove in two runs with two hits; and Cole Mahlum added two singles and a run batted in.

The Bobcats scored single runs in the first and second innings; added two in both the fourth and sixth; and then capped it off with a lone run in the seventh to secure the sweep.

Tanner Shepardson earned the win after allowing one earned run on nine hits and a walk with four strikeouts for the complete-game win.

Christian Mediger had two hits, including a triple, with one RBI as Shepardson helped himself out with a pair of base hits, which included a double.

Rhett Zelinsky added a run-scoring double while Mahlum drove in a run with a single.

Krogman, Schoon and Rykhus chipped in with singles.
