BROOKINGS – Three Cossacks reached the 20-point mark as Sioux Valley defeated Estelline 87-35 in a girls’ basketball matchup Friday to close out the 2017 Swiftel Center Classic.

Carly Granum went 9-of-16 from 3-point range while dropping in a game-high 29 points. She added five assists, three rebounds and three steals.

Miakken Vincent hit five treys and scored 21 points, also totaling seven assists, three boards and a pair of steals.

Point guard Cassie Rawden had an efficient night, scoring 20 points on 5-of-7 shooting (4-of-5 from downtown). She went 6-for-6 at the foul line and also chipped in with four rebounds, four assists and three steals.

The Cossacks made 18 3s on 41 attempts (43.9 percent).

Sioux Valley led 23-10 after a quarter and 39-23 at halftime.

The Cossacks shot a blistering 75 percent (12-of-16) in the third quarter while outscoring the Lady Redmen 34-7 to push the advantage to 73-30. Granum made five 3s in the period.

Lynsey Stevens finished with eight points and five steals, while Rachel Miller added four points and three steals. Abbie Schneider (three) and Perri Liedtke (two) rounded out the scoring.

Sioux Valley committed just five turnovers while forcing 29 – 21 of which came on steals. Ellie Schmidt added three steals and Rylan Willis two.

Estelline’s Tasha Vohlken and Faith VanMeveren both notched eight points. Marissa Golas added seven markers, while Brinn Begalka and Jordan Saathoff contributed six apiece.

The Lady Redmen shot 42.9 percent (12-of-28) from the field. Estelline (1-4) plays at Arlington on Thursday. Sioux Valley (6-1), which was coming off a 64-62 home loss to Howard a night earlier, heads to Hayti to face Hamlin on Jan. 9.
