Coyotes clinch Summit League regular-season crown with 80-75 win over Jackrabbits

VERMILLION – The South Dakota State women’s basketball team had its six-game win streak snapped with an 80-75 loss at South Dakota Wednesday night in front of 4,018 fans.

The Jackrabbits, 22-6 and 11-2, were led by Macy Miller’s game-high 23 points. Madison Guebert scored 19 points and Ellie Thompson chipped in 13 points. Miller also had a game-high seven rebounds.

Jasmine Trimboli led USD (24-5, 14-0) with 18 points. Jaycee Bradley added 15 points and Ciara Duffy 11 points.

SDSU shot over 60 percent from the field in the first three quarters, but was limited to just 18.8 percent (3 of 16) in the fourth. It was held without a field goal in the final 3:10 of the game.

The Jackrabbits had a nine-point lead, 69-60, with 8:08 to play in the fourth quarter after Tagyn Larson tracked down a rebound and found Miller under the basket for a layup. Miller then sank the ensuing free throw.

USD scored the next seven points before Miller sank her third 3-pointer of the game at 3:11 to put SDSU up 72-67. The Coyotes scored the next four points to pull within 72-71 with 1:13 to play. South Dakota closed the game making 12 of 14 from the free-throw line for the win.

Notes: Miller’s 23 points Wednesday night gives her 1,623 career points and moves her into sixth in career scoring. ... Miller’s 20-plus point game was her 13th of the season. ... Miller recorded her 500th career rebound in the first quarter. The junior now has 505. ... Thompson moved into fifth in career blocks with three rejections tonight. She now has 113. ... 

More Notes (USD Sports Information): South Dakota is the first undefeated Summit League regular season champion since 1994. ... The Coyotes also earned their third regular-season title in the last four years.
