Cubs win make-up game in Milroy

MILROY, Minn. – The Brookings Cubs used good pitching and fielding to win a make-up game against the Milroy Yankees Monday night in Milroy, Minnesota.

The Cubs (8-5) started the scoring in the second inning. Austin Koenig got on base with a single and Curt Anderson got aboard with a walk. Caleb Stratmoen then hit an RBI single to put the Cubs up 1-0.

Brookings had the bases loaded with nobody out in the fourth inning after a pair of walks and a single.  Nick Ross came to the plate and hit a sacrifice fly that scored David Thomas. Jameson Meyer then grounded into a double play that ended the inning.

The Cubs picked up an insurance run in the eighth inning. Ty Schneider drew a walk with one out and Jeff Fish drove him in with an RBI double to make it 3-0.

Milroy scored a run in the bottom of the inning to make it 3-1. Brookings failed to score in the top of the ninth and the Yankees went down one-two-three in the bottom of the inning to give the Cubs their eighth win of the season. 

JaColby Anderson picked up the victory for Brookings. He pitched seven innings allowing no runs on four hits with five strikeouts and one walk. Thomas pitched two innings and gave up one run on one hit with four strikeouts and two walks.

Anderson went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Jeff Fish went 1-for-4 with an RBI and Nick Ross picked up an RBI without getting a hit. 

The Cubs will play in Marshall, Minn., Wednesday before hosting the Sioux Falls Flying Squirrels Thursday.
