SDSU junior Madison Guebert was named the CollegeInsider Mid-Major Summit League Player of the Week, also announced Monday.

Daum, Guebert earn weekly honors

ELMHURST, Ill. – For the fourth time this season, South Dakota State’s Mike Daum has been named Summit League’s Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, announced Monday by the league office.

Daum averaged a double-double of 32 points and 13 rebounds in two wins last week, shooting 51.3 percent from the field while going 22-for-22 at the charity stripe. The junior rose to third on the Jackrabbit scoring chart over the weekend and now has 1,828 career points, good enough for 20th in the Summit League record books.

The Kimball, Neb., native started the week with a 37-point, 15-rebound performance during an 87-80 victory at North Dakota State on Wednesday, hitting 10 field goals while going a perfect 16-for-16 on free throws. It was Daum’s eighth 35-point double-double of his career and third 35-point, 15-rebound game. 

He followed with his 19th career double-double on Saturday, dropping 27 points with 11 rebounds in a 101-88 triumph at Omaha while pushing his consecutive free throw streak to 22.

This is the eighth weekly honor of Daum’s career, the fourth highest total in Summit League history.

SDSU (14-5) plays host to Oral Roberts on Thursday at 7 p.m. and Denver on Saturday at 2 p.m.

Women’s Basketball

ELMHURST, Ill. – South Dakota State junior Madison Guebert was named the CollegeInsider Mid-Major Summit League Player of the Week, announced Monday.

The guard helped the Jackrabbits to a 2-0 start in conference play with home wins over Omaha and North Dakota State.

Guebert averaged 21.5 points, two rebounds and 4.5 assists per game. She shot 55.0 percent from the field, 63.6 percent from 3-point range and was a perfect 10 for 10 from the free-throw line.

She scored a season- and game-high 25 points on 7-of-9 shooting from the floor, including 4-of-4 from the long range, in an 89-64 defeat of Omaha on Wednesday. She also connected on all seven of her foul shots.

The Apple Valley, Minn., native tallied a game-high 18 points and dished four assists in an 83-63 win over North Dakota State on Saturday.

For the season, Guebert is second on the team and fourth in the Summit League in scoring (15.4) and she averages a league-leading 21.5 points per game in conference play.

Guebert was the Nov. 27 Summit League Player of the Week.

SDSU (12-4, 2-0) plays at Denver on Thursday at 8 p.m. and at Oral Roberts on Saturday at 2 p.m.
