SIOUX FALLS – Brookings junior Jonah Dobbs and freshman Micah Ardry tied for 10th in Flight 1 doubles at the State Boys’ Tennis Tournament, which concluded Saturday.
Yankton’s Sam Mooney and Michael Frick defeated the Bobcat duo 10-5 in the consolation final.
Dobbs and Ardry, who were seeded 12th, posted a 4-2 record in the event to finish the season with a 9-9 mark.
Dobbs was the No. 8 seed in Flight 1 singles and fell in the fifth-place semifinals on Friday to finish in a tie for seventh. He went 1-2 in the tourney and ended up 10-8 overall.
Brookings was 16th in the team standings with 116 points.
Sioux Falls Lincoln claimed its sixth consecutive team title – and 18th all-time – with 689 points. Sioux Falls O’Gorman (613) was second, Rapid City Stevens (395) third, Sioux Falls Washington (376.5) fourth and Brandon Valley (376) fifth.
Patriot senior Sam Dobbs successfully defended his title at Flight 1 singles and teamed with freshman Gage Gohl to win the Flight 1 doubles crown.
Sam Dobbs was the Flight 2 singles champion in 2016 and 2017, placed second at Flight 2 in 2015 and was the Flight 3 winner in 2014. He teamed with Kaleb Dobbs to win Flight 1 doubles titles in 2015, 2016 and 2017.
The Patriots won five of the six singles titles and two of the three doubles titles this season. They also had a third-place finish in doubles and a fourth-place showing in singles.
Notes: Lincoln also won state championships in 1971, 1976, 1977, 1978, 1991, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2002, 2004, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018. Patriots finished second in 1992, 1993 and 1994.
