Fliers, Cossacks run fast at Sioux Valley Invite

VOLGA – The Flandreau boys’ cross country team won the Sioux Valley Invite on Tuesday at Meadowcreek Golf Course. Flandreau’s Faith Wiese came in second place in the girls race and helped lead the Fliers to a second place finish on the day.

Fliers, Cossacks run fast at Sioux Valley Invite

VOLGA – The Flandreau boys’ cross country team won the Sioux Valley Invite on Tuesday at Meadowcreek Golf Course. Flandreau’s Faith Wiese came in second place in the girls race and helped lead the Fliers to a second place finish on the day.

Boys

The Fliers came in first place with 19 points as they had four runners finish in the top eight. They ran away with top spot as second place Madison had 41 points. Deubrook Area came in third (53) and Sioux Valley came in fourth (66).

The Fliers were led by Lurick Dailey who came in third place with a time of 17:40.54. Flandreau’s Matthew Gassman finished not far behind Dailey in fifth place (18:07.46). Tanner Reed and Brenton Westberry finished in seventh (18:08.35) and eighth (18:22.52(, respectively. Mason Brushmaker came in 28th (20:15.94) and Daniel Hobbie finished in 34th (20:54.22).

Deubrook Area was led by Landen Johnson who came in fourth with a time of 17:55.43. Gunnar Trooien came in ninth (18:26.60) for the Dolphins. Colten Trooien came in 20th (19:22.66) and Tyrus Schulz finished in 31st (20:26.21).

The Cossacks had seven runners in Tuesday’s race. The top finisher was Skylar Schwab who came in 10th (18:29.59). Carson Wosje came in 12th (18:32.44).

Carter Sapp came in 27th (20:12.62) and Isaiah Hemmestad came in 27th (20:20.70). Levi Axtell came in 33rd (20:32.42) and Bret Milton finished in 37th (21:21.51). Trevor Schultz rounded things out for the Sioux Valley, coming 44th (22:39.29).

Deuel’s Ricky Berndt won the race after finishing in 16:40.69 and Madison’s Dylan Gerdes came in second with a time of 17:34.22.

Girls

Clark/Willow Lake won the event with 31 points. Flandreau just missed out on first with 33 points. Sioux Valley came in third (42) and Great Plains Lutheran finished in fourth (56). Madison came in fifth (68) and Webster Area was the final team, coming in sixth (119).

Weise came in second with a time of 19:07.66. She finished behind Great Plains Lutheran’s Hallie Bauer who won the race with a time of 18:45.10.

Kiley Westberry was the next finisher for the Fliers and she came in eight with a time of 20:41.44. Diamond Roy came in 15th (21:21.74) and Josie Hamilton finished in 19th (21:34.88). Haliey Lahr came in 41st (24:24.23) and Nora Hamilton rounded things out for the Fliers, coming in 46th (25:00.35).

Liberty Trygstad led the Cossacks, coming fifth with a time of 20:00.49. Talya Vincent came in 12th (21:16.89) and Kailey Cradduck finished in 16th (21:23.04). Ava Gatzke and Quynn Nielson finished in 22nd (22:21.22) and 23rd (22:27.42), respectively.

Sioux Valley had four more runners. Brook Bjerke came in 40th (24:23.05) and Summer Guthmiller finished in 43rd (24:34.64). Mollie Skipper came in 45th (24:41.97) and Abby Haaland came in 48th (25:34.72) as the final finisher for the Cossacks.

Sioux Valley’s top runner, Isabelle Bloker, did not run Tuesday’s race. 

Deubrook Area had two runners on the girls side. Ellie Olsen came in sixth (20:10.72) and Joeve Krier finished in 39th (24:19.52).
