DENVER – The South Dakota State volleyball team dropped a 3-0 Summit League match at Denver on Friday night in front of 276 fans.
The Jackrabbits (2-21, 0-10) lost 25-22, 25-16 and 25-18 to the Pioneers (16-5, 7-2).
Junior Sierra Peterson and sophomore Ashlynn Smith each had six kills.
Junior Mattison Munger had 11 digs and senior Ellie Benson added nine.
Denver was led by Becca Latham's 15 kills.
Turning Points
In the first set, the Jackrabbits trailed 13-8 but came back to tie the set four times, the last at 19-19.
Denver outscored State 6-3 for the win.
Denver opened the second set with a 10-3 run.
SDSU used a 5-1 run to pull within three, 11-8, but the Pioneers finished the set outscoring the Jackrabbits, 14-8.
The Jackrabbits were within one, 9-8, after freshman Maddie Fay and junior Payton Richardson recorded a block and the Pioneers were called for a setting error.
A 14-5 run by Denver gave the Pioneers a 23-13 lead. SDSU then scored five of the next six points to trail 24-18.
The Pioneers finished the set with one of their 20 kills in the third set.
Notables
Mattison Munger recorded a set assist tonight. She now has 1,994 career assists, six from 2,000 career assists at SDSU... Ellie Benson needs 14 digs to reach 1,000 career digs.
