BROOKINGS – Unlike recent past meetings between the Jackrabbits and Bison on the football field, Wednesday night’s Summit League women’s basketball matchup wasn’t in doubt for very long at Frost Arena.

South Dakota State decimated North Dakota State, 86-33, to improve to 14-6 overall and 6-1 in conference play.

“Good win – we played really well on offense; we did really well defensively – did a good job of not fouling – that certainly helped the pace of the game from our standpoint,” said SDSU head coach Aaron Johnston. “Everybody that got a chance to play today played at a high level and hopefully, the team feels good – it’s a good win for us.”

The Jacks put together a 14-0 run midway through the first quarter to lead by 16 points, 26-10, at the first break, and it only got uglier for the visitors from the north after that.

SDSU outscored the Bison, 17-4, in the second quarter for a 43-14 halftime lead and pushed its advantage to 71-20 through three.

Nine of 13 Jackrabbits that saw playing time scored as Madison Guebert led the way with 23 points on 8-of-12 shooting, including 5-for-8 from downtown and 2-of-2 from the foul line.

Macy Miller added a quiet 19, to go along with five assists and five steals; Myah Selland netted 11 points – all in the first half; Paiton Burckhard came off the bench to net nine points; and Tagyn Larson finished with eight points, two blocks and nine rebounds as the Jacks won the battle of the boards, 38-22.

Marina Fernandez led the Bison with nine points, two steals and two assists as the Bison fell to 6-13 overall and 3-4 in the Summit League.

South Dakota State plays host to the University of Nebraska-Omaha on Saturday. Tipoff is at 2 p.m.

Notes (From SDSU Sports Information): The 33 points allowed are the second-fewest allowed in SDSU’s Division I history. The Jackrabbits allowed 31 points to Western Illinois in a 52-31 victory on Feb. 7, 2009. … South Dakota State recorded a season-high 15 steals. … Miller moved into third in Summit League career scoring, passing South Dakota’s Nicole Seekamp (2,056, 2012-16) and Oakland’s Katie Wolfe (2,065, 1999-2003) with 2,067 career points and is now 211 points away from becoming the all-time scoring leader. … Guebert’s 23 points tonight moved her into seventh in career scoring at SDSU. She now has 1,627 career points. … After scoring 11 points, Selland is now five points shy of scoring 500 career points.
