BROOKINGS – South Dakota State head football coach John Stiegelmeier announced the promotion of Jason Eck to run game coordinator.
"In one short year, Coach Eck has had a huge impact, not only on our offense, but our entire program," Stiegelmeier said. (Offensive coordinator) Eric Eidsness, Coach Eck and our entire offensive staff led an offense that had one of the best seasons in the history of South Dakota State University Football."
Eck joined the Jackrabbit football coaching staff in January 2016 as offensive line coach. During the 2016 season, SDSU featured one of the most prolific offenses in the Football Championship Subdivision with averages of 33.2 points and 437.5 yards of total offense per game en route to a Missouri Valley Football Conference title and a fifth consecutive berth in the FCS playoffs.
Under his guidance, center Jacob Ohnesorge earned All-America recognition and was a first-team all-Missouri Valley Football Conference honoree, while tackle Charlie Harmon was an honorable mention all-MVFC selection.
Eck has coached at the collegiate level since 1999, starting as a graduate assistant at his alma mater, Wisconsin. Before joining the SDSU coaching staff, Eck was run game coordinator and offensive line coach at Montana State during the 2015 season.
