BROOKINGS – No. 1 Sioux Falls Washington edged the Bobcats 3-1 in a nonconference boys’ soccer match Thursday evening at Fishback.
Harrison Dubisar scored the game-winner on a cross from Darius Cooper in the 58th minute for the Warriors.
Imani Sungura added an insurance goal with 16 seconds remaining.
Washington held a 28-13 advantage in shots, including 10-2 on goal.
Brookings’ Gabel Goldhorn knocked home an absolute banger from near midfield in the 23rd minute to open the scoring.
Max Anderson had the equalizer 2:20 before halftime.
“We were really excited to get out to the lead and we hung onto it for most of the first half,” said BHS coach Steve Binkley. “The goal at the end of the half – our players came off a little down. But it’s 1-1 against the best team in the state at that time, so they know they’re playing for a lot.
“I think we take from the game that we can play with the best team, right, and it was a one-goal game most of that second half. I don’t think our guys are down about it or anything. It probably wasn’t our best game; it probably wasn’t theirs either. We were both coming off of really tough opponents on Tuesday.
“We’ll try to find our legs again for Saturday because the end of the season is just game after game. We’re playing together really well and I think we feel really good about where we’ll be at those last couple matches.”
Langalanga David stopped one shot to earn the win in goal.
Zander Larson made seven saves for the Bobcats. Keegan Fields took seven shots, including one on goal.
The match was originally scheduled for Sept. 12 but was postponed due to wet conditions.
Sioux Falls Washington improved to 8-0-1. The Warriors’ lone blemish was a 2-2 draw at Rapid City Stevens on Aug. 24 in their third match of the season.
It marked the final home appearance of the regular season for the Bobcats (2-5-1), who play their final four matches on the road. Brookings takes on No. 3 O’Gorman on Saturday at 1 p.m. at McEneaney Field in Sioux Falls.
