BROOKINGS – The Bobcats had a tough go against one of the top Eastern South Dakota Conference teams as they fell, 62-9, in a dual at the BHS Auxiliary Gymnasium.
Nolan Archer got the ‘Cats off on the right foot with a win by fall in 5:48 over Hayden Shaffer at 106 pounds, but it wasn’t until the 220-pound bout that another Bobcat had his hand raised.
Gus Miller won a 3-0 decision over Gunnar Gehring to account for the final Brookings team points.
“Not only Pierre is there, but Rapid City Central,” said BHS head coach Scott Miller about the competition that the Bobcats will face in Saturday’s Les Tlustos Invitational. “Every single kid, if we don’t pick it up and wrestle a little bit better than we did tonight, it’s going to be a short day for a lot of kids.
“A couple of kids wrestled well – Nolan Archer is doing a great job – last minute of the second period, he mixtured him to his back – the rest of our kids are missing that. They don’t have that ‘I’m going to do this,’ mentality. They have, ‘When he does this, I’m going to do that.’ They are countering and we can’t do that.
“We just need to be a lot more aggressive, up and down the lineup.”
